1. How would you summarize the range or ranges of rugs that your brand produces?

Tissage has always catered to retailers and specialty boutique stores all over the world, which service a vast gamut of customers with very distinct tastes and sensibilities. It has always been the endeavor of the company to consistently introduce collections that have been very distinctive and innovative while keeping in tune with the current aesthetic prevalent in the industry. The ranges have always been path breaking and different as that is what our customers come to us for. Our customers have come to expect products and collections that cannot be easily replicated by other companies due to its design intricacy and materials used.

2. How would you describe the style behind your brand? What makes it stand out from other brands?

Tissage as a brand is symbolic for creating products that are very commercially viable. We believe in style that would just not be appreciated in the gallery but would also be bought and adorn residences of patrons. I think that is one of the biggest differences between Tissage and other brands creating high-end hand knotted rugs—the commercial viability

3. Where are your carpets made?

All the rugs produced by Tissage are woven in various parts of India.

4. Who designs your rugs and what has been the inspiration behind some of the latest collections?

Tissage has a very talented in-house design team that creates the designs. Inspiration for our new collections is not just limited to various forms of two-dimensional art. We believe that the imagery present in nature and landscapes can be as prolific in providing inspiration for rugs. For example two new collections The Winter Series and Reef have been inspired by images of the winter season and the Great Barrier Reef respectively.

5. What is the secret of a successful carpet?

There is no one secret to making a beautiful carpet that is appreciated and commercially viable. It is a combination of so many things. A successful carpet is a function of all the processes involved in rug making—designing, dyeing, usage of materials, weaving, finishing, etc.

6. Which one of your rugs is your favourite and why?

While it would be difficult to pick one rug out of thousands that have been created and have been running successfully with distributors all over the world, one collection that would be a personal favorite is the Aanya Collection. It is inspired by Japanese charcoal paintings and has been one of the most distinctive ones that we have produced over the years.

7. What kind of interior projects have you worked on in the past or are working on now?

Our rugs adorn very high-end residences and are usually sold through interior designers in various parts of the world.Tissage rugs are the centerpieces of the spaces that they inhabit.

8. Can you describe one of the most exciting projects you have worked on in the last five years?

One of the most exciting projects that we worked on was a very high-end residence where the interior designer was looking for a collection with Asian influences. The collection finally shortlisted was the Aanya Collection that is inspired by Japanese charcoal paintings and Asian textiles. The interior designer ended up using two of the rugs as huge wall installations as well.
